Re: [DIY] Re: Soldering iron

Liquid flux is meant for soldering items other than electrical and electronic circuits.  The solder used for most soldering contains a flux that is imbedded within the core of the solder itself.  The purpose of the flux is to clean the metal being soldered by removing any oxidization that would otherwise hinder the solder from adhering to the pores of the metal.  Liquid solder you brush on the item to be soldered before heating and applying the solder.  Solder used for copper pipes and most jewelery is (acid-core) while solder intended for electronic circuitry is (rosin-core).  Never use acid core solder on electronic circuits as it will corrode and ruining the delicate boards and connectors used in electron circuitry.  Liquid flux is most often used when large items such as copper pipe are to be soldered requiring the use of a torch.  Large wattage soldering irons are often used when soldering tin and copper plate and many times muriatic acid is the flux of choice to clean the metal before soldering begins.  Muriatic acid is widely used for cleaning metals before soldering with a gas torch as well, such as in radiator fabrication and repair.
