I always wondered of those dishwasher cleaners were special. Now I will go buy a pack and try it out on my dishwasher.

I would think a dishwasher cleaner would work. The cleaners are specifically made to clean stained stainless steel. The inside of our dishwasher was heavily stained with buildup and after one application, it looked new.
We used Finish cleaner. Came in liquid form. Maybe dilute it down and put it in a spray bottle. Apply and let sit for a couple of hours then rinse.
