I would think a dishwasher cleaner would work. The cleaners are specifically   made to clean stained stainless steel. The inside of our dishwasher was heavily   stained with buildup and after one application, it looked new.
We used   Finish cleaner. Came in liquid form. Maybe dilute it down and put it in a spray   bottle. Apply and let sit for a couple of hours then rinse.

You might try   barkeeper's friend.  It is the go-to cleaner for fine stainless   cookware.  It removes metallic scrapes and stains on white porcelain sinks,   when nothing else works.  I don't really think of it as an industrial   strength cleaner, but it is pretty amazing sometimes.

Does anyone know of techniques to clean stainless steel?  I am doing   part time work in a laundromat.  machines are stained withdetergent   etc.  I used stainess cleaner and steel to no avail
