Got a German Shepherd but he crawls under the gate. Hadn't thought about it but the gate we do have is the same height as the panels but about a foot shorter. Wooden posts at each end do make sense. Would entail cutting the vinyl panel down, although I wouldn't mind a wooden gate and put the vinyl elsewhere. I checked and I guess the cross braces are the only pieces that have wood inside. Couldn't see inside the posts but the section pieces are hollow.
I'm not a specialist in fences, but I would put a post in both sides of the gate. The hinge side, obviously, because it needs to support the weight and strain of an opening gate, and the open side because people will just let it go and slam into the fence. And if you ever get a dog, he will push on it. A LOT.
Unsupported panels on either side won't last long.

Subject: [DIY] Hinges for plastic fencing
We have white plastic fencing extending out about 30' on either side of our home. On one side the panel next to the house was torn loose in a storm. We would like to make that panel a gate, but I'm having trouble deciding if we need special hinges or will any hinge that would work on a wooden gate, work on these? It is a panel so doesn't have posts on both ends, we will have to add a little on the end that would normally attach to the adjoining post.
