Re: [DIY] Toilet tank leak from bolts or gasket?

My first thought would be condensation.  If you are in a high humid area the cold water in the tane will do that.  The only way I know to stop this is to combine the hot and cold lines to the toilet.  If you have a basement and the toilet is on the bottom floor, it's not too difficult.  Don't forget to add a valve to both the hot and cold to shut it off as needed: in the winter time, you need to turn off the hot to save on the heater cost.

Subject: [DIY] Toilet tank leak from bolts or gasket?

I stepped into a small puddle of water in our bathroom today -- not a lot, but still unpleasant. After cleaning up the water, I determined the leak is from the toilet tank (it was wet on the underside of the tank).

I shut off the supply line and flushed it but did not drain the remainder at the bottom. An hour later, there is no "sweat" on the underside of the tank or at the toilet base where there the bolts/gasket connect.

I'm pretty novice at toilet repair, but logically, I think this means the gasket is the culprit, not the bolts since there is still water on top of the bolts but none in the gasket from the flush. Does that make sense? Wanted to double check here before I head to Home Depot.

Thanks!

Mike
