look a lot of older homes smell like rotten eggs if your fixture traps are more the 6ft from the vent stack you must revent over the the top or if you local code allows you to vent up and out the roof. if your fixtures are more than 6ft from the vent stack the suction from the affluent will suck the traps dry allowing sewer gases to permeate the home .hope this helps  jeff

Yes, that is the way i would describe it. Sweet chemical odor. Not pleasant at all.
I thought keeping it open for a few weeks would make it dissipate, but as soon as I close the door, it comes back, so it has to be emanating from the floor below.

I feel for ya! I bought this little 1964 house, and when I opened a little closet, the smell about knocked me out. I figure the renter hadn't used that closet, hadn't even opened the door, and maybe it was the white-with-gold-specks sheet flooring that had built up vapors????

That same smell seems to come up from the same flooring under the bed, where it doesn't get so much air movement. Drives me nuts! Ceiling fan and constantly-open window help...

What sort of smell is it? This one I guess I would describe as a sweetish-chemically odor, just a little bit sharp.... Haven't been able to find anything on whether or not this old flooring might be what's causing the odor....
