Short length of broom handle or hammer handle also works.
Sometimes our GD gets a nasty appetite and wont let go of a piece of
food caught between its teeth and sidewall...very gently we take a
2ft length of rebar and slowly get it behind one of the grinder bars
and lever the plate around till it frees up.
Symptom is slight hum then the button on the bottom clicks...
so we rebar it and then push reset and GD happy GRINder

Hi Carol, if you look under your
sink where the disposal is, at the bottom of the disposal,
you should find a red button. That button is a breaker
switch built into the disposal. It's possible
thatbutton is tripped.
Depending on the manufacturer, the
button may be another color but it's usually located at
or near the underside of the disposal unit.
