Re: [DIY] Cordless Skill Saw

Second on the Sears.  When I go off-site, I take an extra battery along but I have never needed it.  Some of their stuff has gotten real expensive - try buying the 19.2 air pump but like you I have everything they put out.

I have the complete craftsman cordless tool set. Everything craftsman has cordless right now I have. They are wonderful for everyday use. People will say other brands are better but they are great for residential use. They have a nice kit with what you need at Lowes right now for 250.00

Joyce, I'd be interested in your experience if you get one....  My husband is now deep in alzheimers disease, and I've finally hired some boys to do the "yard" mowing and weed eating, which is about 4-5 acres around the house, the baler will bale the fields but there is still a lot of odds and ends I need to do myself. Tried to get a lightweight weedeater but sold out.   I can't even lift my husbands big saws or outside machines so am looking for cordless ones.  First purchase I think will be a chain saw, can use corded small tools close to the house really need a chain saw down by the creek.  Problem I've had is no one has what I like in stock.  I research, find something, try and buy it, only to get a sold out notice.  Just heard it might be fall before the bicycle shops have enough stock - so wondering if the rest of our summer type purchases will all be delayed.

Howdy Miss Joyce,

The DeWalt and Milwalkey both great saws at 71/4' blades with 18 volt batters.  NOTE: both of these are higher priced saws, with the DeWalt being the highest priced.  The plus side to both is their life long warritnes without abuse reasons.

A note two think on the how much time you spend daily on using ANY skill saw.  The longer use would mean two batters to stay in long term cutting work.  If your cutting time is over about 2 hours the you may want to think about a corded skill saw.

I bought one of the early models years ago. It had a 4-1/2" blade and used an 18 volt battery. Wouldn't cut much without running down the battery! There are higher voltage models now with larger blades that may do better. If you are looking for speed and usability definitely get a corded model! If you don't need it for long, look into renting one from a big box store or rental place.
