How about a pipe through the tires attached to a cable on both ends, through pulleys attached to the joists, you can use a come-along to pull the tires up

Yes, I have been thinking of the weight factor--and of how hard it might be for a woman to lift them up there. The tires are not on rims, but they would still be awkward to handle. Presently, they are stacked horizontally on the floor, but I would like to get them up, out of the way. Any suggestions as to any other ways to store them?
