RE: [DIY] Re: Stove burners

First check the wiring to see if they are burned and/or brittle.  If so, they should be replaced.

If you do need to replace the wires, you need to get the special wires that are made for stoves.  The insulation is specially made for high temperatures.  I would rerun from the switch to the burner.  You'll need to remove part of the instrument panel to expose the switches and get the connection tabs that go on the switches.  Usually, the colors for each burner is different, but that may be an expense you might not want.  Run one set at a time so there is no confusion about which switch goes to which burner.  Run it to the adapter and get new adapters so those will be good.  Also they come with the right type of wire nut and usually with a piece of shrink tubing to help hold it together.

It shouldn't take too long to do it.

I think you nailed it. We do use a large cast iron on the burners quite a bit. The ones that go out are the large burners - the ones we use with a large cast iron pan. This has happened to two different stoves. Are you saying I can just replace the wires? Are they easy to replace?

Thanks

The reason I ask, is because we have this problem with our Mexican tenants because they are used to putting large pots on wood or gas stoves and cooking something that takes a while. They taste great, but the large pot on the electric stove restricts air circulation and fries the wires. It usually happens on the large burners and I have to replace the connection under the stove top often, till they get out of the habit.
