Sometimes the fit is very snug so try to fit it on a small piece of PVC if possible before purchasing.  When I encountered that once, I applied a bit of wax to help work the PVC through.

Try to get the thicker walled PVC so that there is less sag or at least the opportunity to use fewer brackets.  I believe the higher the number on PVC (80, 40, 20), the thicker the wall (yet the outer diameter between them all remains constant).

You can paint the PVC.  Or if you prefer to keep it white then simply face the description line printed on the PVC in the upwards direction once mounted so that you cannot see it.

Those brackets can be found at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Anna's Linens....most places really.  I found some discounted at Lowes one time for around $5.
