A neighbor had trouble with her mini tractor; we all jumped up and down on it to mix the gas in the tank (again, something to do with additives, is it MTBA?), then were able to start it.
Try shaking it around as much as possible. When it sits, something in the gas settles out.

Speaking of engine problems.
Troybilt riding mower, hard to start.
Crank it long enough and it might start (or might just drain
the battery).
A shot of ether helps it start faster, and once warmed up
it starts fine. Let it sit for a day or two and its
back to very hard to start.
Simple carbs on these, I suspect a spray can of carb cleaner,
especially trying to clean any idle jets?
Replacing spark plug probably a good idea as well, though
since it starts with ether and runs ok, suspecting the cold start
circuit.
Any other suggestions?
