Apparently, the additive they put in gas (sorry, can't remember the name,
makes the gas hard on mowers and such) damages the emission control system.

Ethanol. The EPA has been pushing for the ethanol content in gasoline to be
raised to 15%, which has been shown to ruin existing vehicles and machinery
which manage on the 10% mandated now. I have to put Sta-Bil in the gasoline
I use for my lawn tractor and lawn mower, to minimize the damage done by the
ethanol.
