Re: [DIY] Ongoing Shed questions

Good ideas and I like the extra storage area. I want so much to give it a home look and take away that shed image.

We pick out windows on friday and will install them ourselves...
So that area under a building with no basement is called a "crawl space" ?

Lattice foundation enclosure sounds good for here, too.  Give it that little cottage country look.  Don't be afraid to accent the exterior with possibly window shutters and a flower box planter.  If it doesn't actually have windows, you can still put 2 shutters together simulating closed shutters on a window.
24" is a good amount of space to store such as lumber or ladders.

It's height from bottom of shed structure to concrete slab is about 26. "Terminology?" This open area under the shed is called what ????

Any creative suggestions on how to approach this structure space? We will put lattice under the porch section.
I'd love to be able to have a stone-work look under this shed but it might be price prohibitive.
I had thought about the concrete board that comes in sheets but then I'd like to have it look a bit nicer than just a concrete bottom. I know it needs to be vented.

I had thought the HD crew was just going to set the base runners on the slab, leaving a 6" gap, but the extra height will work well for us in trying to tie the trailer in to the shed with a breezeway.

Also, what is a good interactive group to discus landscaping questions?

[DIY] Re: Cuckoo clock

Thank you for all of your help!! I have a lot of things to play around with, including the things in the booklet I downloaded, so I think I should find a workable solution, over the next couple of days.

Lee,

That site is fantastic!! There is a wealth of info on it!! I downloaded the booklet for further reference. (I've saved a link too many times, and then tried to go back to it, and it no longer exists.)

[DIY] Re: Cuckoo clock

Umm...I think that's a bit beyond my "smarts"...not sure how the clock would stay on it, and how to make sure the weights (for "winding" it up), and the pendulum would all line up.    With my luck, I'd probably end up with a big hole in the middle, that the clock would just fall through. Result---unfixable clock........   ^o^

Re: [DIY] Cuckoo clock

I should have mentioned in my post that I have adjusted the pendulum weight numerous, and I think that this might be what the trains are throwing off kilter. Is there some way of tightening the pendulum weight, so that it will not move with the vibrations?

Re: [DIY] Cuckoo clock

Not certain if you have clock training or not Ray but I don't think you are correct on this one. It might be nice to learn if the vibrations caused the clock to become unregulated (tic and tocs are not equal). This would relate to time changes. Cookoo clocks are not precision clocks and if the bird makes noise within 5 minutes of the hour, you are doing well. If timing of the clock is the issue, it is most likely the pendulum.

Here is a little about living with cookoo clocks that migh give things to try.  http://www.cuckooclockhospital.com/tools/livewith.pdf

A suspended platform for the clock. Four guy wires come dowm from the ceiling to support a shelf, which is free to swing. Thus, as the house vibrates the shelf will not. I have used such a mechanism to transport up to seven full cups of coffee at one time, without breakind a ripple in the surface of the beverage.
