Re: [DIY] Refrigerators

I don't have a website per se but I always google whatever I'm looking for and ask for reviews.  Even on big appliances you can usually find reviews on amazon.com.  As for price, that's hard.  10 years ago when we were buying, the 3door French style was too much money, with even a side by side we gave $2000.  If I were buying today I'd determine if we really needed that big a unit — truth is with just two of us, we don't.  I'd rather have a nicer one, even if smaller (actually preferably smaller) in the kitchen and an old one for overflow in the garage.  There are so many new features these days I'd spend time on google before I actually went to the store.  List what things are important to you first, then check scratch and dent stores, outlets, online etc.  My last one which I loved best was a GE - since it was builtin we sold it with the house.  I let a salesman talk me into a Kenmore, that was 'similar to the GE' — but has never been as good and the plastic, which was supposed to be aircraft quality, wasn't worth the money.  11 years later I'm still using it and don't like it any better than I ever did, oddly enough I've never used the features the salesman pushed on me.

There are several brands that are counter depth but taller, I think the LG was one I looked at.  I would have much preferred one of those now — but money was tight so I'm still stuck with my Kenmore.  It works fine but I always feel like I got gypped, LOL.

Can you suggest a website or facebook page that  gives honest reviews on refrigerators?

We need  to  buy one before our 16 year old refrigerator gives out.

Looking at french door/bottom freezer models  but do not want to spend  more than $1,500
