Re: [DIY] MDF for flooring

Would not vinyl tiles be as cheap and more "proper" looking.  Just the perimeter around the rugs.

Before I start I will acknowledge that everyone says not to do it — yet you see pictures etc online where it has lasted a couple of years. Lowes swears you can't cut plywood into strips and apply it like wood flooring and stain it — but people who are doing it - but it's a lot of work. We are still in need of something to cover this ugly concrete for year or so. Lowes has a printed mdf board that looks good and is cheaper than plywood - yes I know it's just paper on top but is the pattern and color we want.

What would be the best concrete sealer and/or glue to adhere the mdf. I've read it's best to spray the back and edges prior to installation, then several coats of poly over it after it's down. We have a little less than 1400 ft of old concrete floors and believe me, we've tried every way to do something without spending several thousand dollars - I know they have to make a living, but our budget now is next to zero, and it's something we can do. It's an open concept so can't just do a room at a time. Probably 80% +- of the floor is covered with large area rugs so it's really just around the edges and the in-between areas that would show and be subject to wear. Paint doesn't look good, I want the concrete covered.

Thanks a lot, I know there's a right way to do things but right now we just want a temp fix for a few hundred dollars.
