No one needed these big houses then since you spent your days working mostly outside, or working inside. We raised all the boys in homes much smaller than the two of us live in now ;) I just finished wrapping gift bags of homemade candy I've made for our neighbors for Thanksgiving. This followed four days of cooking, standing at the stove. I enjoyed doing it but did remind me how much work real cooking is. DH treated me to Q'Doba's quesadillas for dinner when I poured the last tray of peanut brittle last night, love that guy.

I agree with you Dale. I am in a Ladies Homestead group now, and we just went & had a "wood chopping party" Sunday. This truly brought to my mind ides of yesterday when life was about "work". I had an incredible afternoon. Brought home a nice load of wood, too . Ah yea, the days of growing, canning, being self-sufficient.
