Hi Bill;

What is their current electric bill? I don't know.
But I do know that one of those heater, in a month
can cost 1.5kWh x 24 x 31 x 12.5¢ = $139.50
And that a $2000 mini split system (you can buy
a 9000BTU Fujitsu (SEER26) online for $1500
and it will also reduce AC costs) will give 2-4
times as much heat, for the same electric cost.

The initial cost definately is. But the long term cost
probably is not. But, I also presented other possible
solutions, that would both reduce initial cost AND
also operating cost.

Correct. That is accurate, for short sighted thinking.

However, it sounds like a solution may be to install
a return air duct (or childproof the baseboards). I've
not heard back, but I suspect the room may be an
addition, built off the kitchen. Kitchens (by code) do
not have return air ducts. Therefore, when the furnace
goes on, it pressurizes the kitchen, which is between
this room and the nearest return air duct, resulting in
very poor heating of that room. A simpler solution
may be to just close the kitchen furnace supply duct.
But again, this room may not even be off the kitchen.
However, we do know that the room does not have
a return air duct, and is not being adequately heated
by the furnace. Hopefully the homeowner will post
more details.

I presented multiple possible solutions, and asked
many questions in order to get an idea of what is
going on. I made no claim (with so little infor-
-mation) as to what will be a definitive solution.
