Re: [DIY] 30" gap between wall n shower wall

These are great ideas. Thx folks. I really need a broom closet yet pull out shelves and built ins for the shower wall are great too. It will be siding with one exterior wall. I wonder if the rotted window frame on that wall has to do with the exterior as well as the shower. Will be smart to have shower moved.

You might even consider plastic containers, but be sure they are air-tight, since the humidity will definitely cause some problems with linen and towels stored in there (shelves by themself won't have the mildew problems that containers do). You could also use the back half of the cabinet space as shelves for the tub area (for soap and shampoo and such). The problem with that is that you cannot use a prefab surround, so you have to get the panels from a hardware store, cut them to size, glue them onto the sheetrock with Loctite, and seal the edges with silicone. It's a bit of a pain, but with planning you can have the shelves in areas that are out of the way and less prone to people holding onto them to pull themselves up out of the tub. Be sure there is a slight slant to the shelves so water will drain to the tub area.

More importantly, the 30" depth is too deep and therefore wasted space and impractical for neat organization. So now i plan to remodel and move the tub yet ironically, to this novice, there will be another 30" gap, duh, but it will be 1/2 the current width. Again i dont like the hard to reach depth. What does one do. It is a small room but still someone must have come up with wiser use.???
