I thought of that, but it won't cover up the blotch that is there, which is the size of the original Nutone chime & viewer. About 8". I was looking into decorative metal plates, and came across a website that will cut nice sheet metal for backsplashes and things like that, plus they offer a sample pack that I might buy. I could put it over the holes for decorative effect, maybe even stencil the door number on them beforehand. OR, I suppose I can put the metal plates there (the rep said that liquid nails would attach them) and then put the doorknocker on top of that if it looks convenient.

What about a knocker?

I need a small metal plate, I suppose, to stick on, that would look somewhat decorative. I GUESS I can paint over it, but the condo development has all the doors painted in the same color, and I'm not sure if I could match the paint, so I was hoping I could find some nice embossed type thin metallic plate that would cover it up, but I can't find anything. It doesn't have to be metal, but obviously has to stand up in the rain. Any suggestions, please? (Don't ask me why I took out the doorbell -- oh yes, I remember -- the bell part was broken, plus it didn't look good)
