We finally decided on a Miller Bobcat 250. It has plenty of generator capacity and has the added advantage of being a portable welder. We bought the propane fuel model so we don't have to worry about stale gasoline.
I have the well set up so it can just be plugged in. I'm considering a transfer switch so I can power the house if need be. We normally don't have loss of power for more than a couple of hours, and then not often, so it may not be needed.
Disregard if you have no use for a welder.
