[DIY] Re: septic treatment system

When I was on a septic system, the guy who cleans those things a) told me people often tell him he has a sh*tty look on life!! (He was joking); and 2) Yeast with sugar to help activate it.

However, I was later told that Rid-X is actually better since it has the special bacteria required to help keep septic systems clean and active. The only problem I ever had with a septic system was when I used White Cloud TP. It is NOT good for use with septic systems because it doesn't properly dissolve. I found that out the hard way.

Do you know for sure how your septic system was installed? For awhile, faulty septic tanks were being used quite a lot. Depending, of course, on the soils, etc., the drainage system can make a big difference. Besides not putting grease down the system (I have a can I put grease in and just toss it in the trash), egg shells can be deadly. They are like placing sand inside the system. If you do have a garbage disposer, be careful to slowling add lettuce, carrots, etc., down the disposal and keep the water running full. Don't just dump things into the disposal and think it can handle them.

This won't work for a septic system, but for regular city sewer systems, a plumber told me to run HOT WATER into the sink and add a capful of bleach and then let it all drain out. (Which reminds me that you do need to be careful not to put bleach and other cleansers into the septic system since they will kill off the good bacteria. If it does get some bleach, etc., from washing clothes and dishes, etc., just be sure to put the Rid-X or whatever down so it can rebuild the bacteria.) GOOD LUCK!! Darci

I try to keep grease out of the treatment plant but some how it keeps building up. I have a filter installed on the septic side before it gets to the water ditributor side to my sprinklers but grease still gets through.
