DH bought an old wood tray, it's hand-made and hand-painted, a nice tole design over the inside bottom of the tray. The down side is the finish is sticky. I want to remove the lacquer? shellac? polyurethane? I've tried dawn detergent, alcohol & acetone with no luck. I also have denatured alcohol and turpentine I could try. I could put a poly finish over it but don't think that's the answer. Would putting it in the oven on low heat help? I need to fix the finish without harming the painted portion.
Thanks.
