Re: [DIY] Removing pidgeon crap from our shingles ?

Bird droppings are acidic. It will only affect anything that is reactive to acid. Besides possible diseases wild birds can carry.
If your roofing tiles have cement in them, the acid in the droppings could attack the limestone in the concrete. I know concrete is alkaline, so droppings should react with it.
I don't know much about the content of concrete. But I know from having parrots that bird droppings rusts a metal cage.
A pressure washer removes droppings pretty well if you have access to one and your roofing material is pretty robust.

I have been thinking about using a wire brush to
remove the pidgeon crap that is all over the
shingles on some sections of our house.

It is mostly on top of our front porch.

There is also a lot of green moss & dirt betweeen the
shingles and I wonder if removing all this will cause
more problems than it solves ?

In other words ....
Does pidgeon crap and moss deteriorate asbestos
shingles if it is left on them indefinitely ?
