Re: [DIY] Loose Batteries Problem

Some rechargeable batteries are slightly shorter than real batteries.

If there is a spring and tab, perhaps (carefully) expand the springs and tabs on each side by pulling gently enough not to pry them away from the housing?

Oddly enough, along the same lines, recently I was testing a thermostat by changing out the batteries.  The new batteries would not stay seated and would pop out.  Turns out the batteries I was attempting install were slightly slimmer than the usual AA batteries.

Are you sure you're not missing something?  There's supposed to be a tab on one side and a spring on the other, so the batteries can move when you're putting them in.  Are the batteries SUPPOSED to be Cs?  Maybe you're supposed to put in Ds?

As far as you're solution, as long as the pennies aren't touching any other metal, I can't see a reason that it's bad.

Subject: [DIY] Loose Batteries Problem

I have a Sangean portable radio that works with both AC and batteries.  The radio uses six C batteries, arranged in an upper row of two batteries and a lower row of four. If you plug it in and turn it off (yes, turn it off) it will recharge rechargeable batteries.

The only problem I've had is that there's too much space between the batteries and the only solution I've been able to come up with has been to put a penny between the two upper batteries and three pennies wrapped in aluminum foil between two of the lower batteries. The radio works fine with this makeshift arrangement, but I'm wondering if somehow I'm courting disaster. Am I? And can anybody come up with a better solution to this problem?

Thanks.

Terry
