It might help by absorbing some of the spill. Be careful using a vacuum as the arcing of the brushes can cause an explosion from the fumes. You might try using GUNK on the soaked are and then wash with Dawn and water. Straight Dawn may also dilute the smell.

Flat_Land Dale~~~~~~An extra heater kerosene pipe line was mistakenly cut and undetected for over a week, leaked 1 gal or a bit more of the fluid into a wall and traveled the pipe line diagonly down to the second-story room with stain on the inside wall and subfloor. How long will it take for that smell to go away? For someone hypersensitive to smells this has forced a relocation.
