Well, I called Maytag's Customer Service. I don't want to sound mean but I think I knew more than the young sounding girl who answered. When I asked about the length of the vent pipe she could not tell me how long was too long. And when I asked something else she put me on hold for a minute and then came back online and asked me if I wanted to set up an appointment with a serviceman. I ended up hanging up shortly after that.
I went outside and took the cap off the vent pipe. It was an easy fix. The flapper that was on the end of the pipe was stuck in the closed position. A slight tap was all that was needed to make it open. Since it was not used for a few weeks because my old dryer quit working I'm assuming a little bit of lint or moisture dried and bonded the flap shut. Now the dryer works like a charm and I am happy once again!
Thanks Mike, for your answer.
