Glad to hear your problem was solved so easily Nancy. We had a similar problem not too long after we moved into this house, towels started taking forever to dry. The repairman said the vent line was too long - a common problem with newer homes that have the laundry room located in the center of the house - most dryers don't have the power to push the lint a long way. His advice was to make sure our new dryer had a boost on it to compensate. We took the filter off the line under the house and it's worked fine for 6 years now. When we moved here my husband couldn't figure out why there was lint under the house - but we assume they did the same thing then replaced it when they put the house up for sale since you need it to pass inspection. For just two people the lint that gathers isn't a problem. The only other problem was a fuse so the original $50 service call has been the most expensive repair.

Re: [DIY] Re:New Gas Dryer Probelm
My only point is that the length of the vent pipe supposedly is important, I didn't think ours was that long, but I don't remember him saying how long was too long. I was excited about a new washer and dryer since mine were already 14 years old, till I saw the prices. I'll continue to have these repaired as long as possible, got lots more fun things to spend my money on and I'm not sure the new ones are built as good. I hated the front loading washers the first time they brought them out and haven't changed. We still have the biggest unit they make since that's what we needed in 1992 but I'd love to have a smaller set now, I either have to run small loads or wait a couple of weeks to get a full load, LOL.
