So there is only 1 cable going to the old light controlled by the switch (black and white + bare ground). You just need to go back to using that for the light(s) and add a plug for the opener getting the power from some other source. BTW, usually the white is neutral and all other colors except green or bare are hots either constant or switched. Anything is possible, however. You never know what the other guy did. Get a touch tester that you just touch to 1 wire (through the insulation) to see if it is hot. Some call it a glow stick.
