[DIY] Re: New Gas stove/ Maytag brand

Joan,
(re: BTU's) some of it is residential versus moderate versus commercial;
Too large a burner in a house can catch the overhead cabinets on fire; Too small with a large pot will have a hard time boiling water; Any stove burner with no pot on it puts all the BTUs into the cabinets/ hood above.
Even the cheapest residential stove has different BTU ratings on different burners, designed for different size pots on the same stove; different things cooking require different heat; too much burns.
The Owners Manual can help you understand much better, but if you have a larger family, or do a lot of group entertaining, you might have more need for a moderate or commercial stove, because you use larger pots.  But, you may have to rework cabinets and exhaust (System) to handle the larger BTU stove

depending on the price you pay. hmmmmm.
I didn't know that when I was shopping. Also wouldn't have known what Btu would boil water in a reasonable amount of time. >>
