I don't know of the big box store guys and their unreliability.The question posed was which side is what,but thank you for pointing out the finer parts on how osb is made to which I am quite familiar with but I'm sure others within this forum will also appreciate your knowledge on this. .I simply offer that it is a personal decision as to what side one wishes to be faced.up or out as It from a structural point makes no difference.hope this helps jeff

OSB faces are not cut so once more the guys at the big box prove unreliable. The difference in texture are from the molding process. One side is a screen on which the glue coated flakes of wood are deposited. This is a belt that moves between heated pressure plates or rollers that compress the board to its finished thickness while heating the glue to bond the wood flakes. The process is continuous and the sheets are cut and trimmed after the forming process. So the only sawn areas are the edges of the sheet.
