Well, I've discovered something about connecting new PVC to old galvanized pipe. The hard way. I usually use CPVC because there are adapters with metal ends to tighten up on galvanized pipes. I usually have trouble cracking plastic pipe but with PVC, I found the secret. On a male end of the galvanized pipe, tightening up the female end of an adapter will lead to cracks. But if you add a galvanized coupling and then a PVC male adapter, tightening the connection will make the plastic compact, not spread. No leaks. Hope this helps someone out there
