I NEVER use manufactured chemicals; not because I'm a green freak, but because the earth has always functioned without them, so I don't see the need. (I might feel differently if I were growing a cash crop covering thousands of acres). Another option is boiling water. It will destroy the roots of the unwanted plants without worrying about overspray or contamination of any sort. I just used this method yesterday on some ground wasps that had nested between the back stoop and the foundation. They were nailing me several times a day, and getting the dogs, too. Fortunately, I'm not allergic, but we were all getting very watchful each time we opened the back door. I'd had enough, so they got scalded. It would at least be worth a try, saving you a trip to the store and some $$, too.
