We are lucky to have two fabric stores and two outlets here - although I'd say 50% of their space is craft/home decor & ready mades. You'd be surprised how many working mothers (are there non-working mothers?) sew in the evenings, even those who don't make clothing still sew for the home - and many of them do it as a part-time business. Working men have always spent evenings & weekends in their shop for the same reasons women sew - I think they call it crafting now since we equate sewing with old women. As was said earlier these new space age sewing machines are as much a computer as our PCs, including software - it's not your Mother's sewing machine anymore. Other than we call sewing women's work and building men's work, there's not much difference in our tools and methods - it's more a matter of semantics
