unrelated directly to issue, but close: I have never seen for sale, but

are replacement anode rods available for home water heaters ? they must be

3-5' long? I should look on google..

The red reset button on the water heater is not electrical load related. It is a thermal protection so, when the heater gets too hot, it disconnects the electricity to the elements in order to stop additional heating. Usually this button popping out means a thermostat failure allowing too much heating. I would suggest an "overhaul" by replacing the elements and thermostats. You will probably find the elements in bad condition. This will cost apx. $60 (parts) and give you another 4-6 years of service.

The other morning I woke up to no hot water. I opened the heater to hit the reset (red button) and also checked and did the circuit breaker. We now have hot water.

My question is, could the power surge made the unit shut off, to protect it.? Or should I be worried its over heating. I know how to lower it. At one point we needed to raise it as we were running out of hot water.

Thanks for any input. The unit is 6 years old. Never drained or cleaned out. (I know, I know. BAD! )
