Re: [DIY] Motion Lights not working

We use some halogen fixtures at work that were failing often. I had to fix them each time they failed. They seemed to be failing more than they should have been. These were the type that were a metal enclosure with a tubular glass bulb and a flat glass front that swings away when you open it. They typically come in 300W and 500W, those are the wattage's we have. I use the same bulbs in my garage and they have never failed.

I finally figured out what was causing them to fail prematurely, in our case. Its been several years now since they haven't worked.  Its really simple, its just water is getting into them, they burn hot, water breaks the glass on the bulb, they fail.

All you need to do is either get new fixtures, they can be fairly cheap, or find out where the leak in them is and seal it with some caulking. You may have a different type of fixture but I would still suspect water being the problem if they are exposed to it. They may not have sealed well after the last repair.

Two flood lights on a single base, up high in front, that come on at the slightest movement.  They are wired in - no on/off switch, the electrician just showed me the outlet that has the power line. This morning I let the dogs out at 4am, no lights.  I went out on the step, no lights.  Went further out and walked back and forth in several areas which should have set them off.   I can see a tiny red light up there — between the two bulbs - but the regular lights won't come on.  Just put new bulbs in a few weeks ago.  Checked the outlet and it's working fine.  They are so sensitive it's been a bit of an irritation, but it's dark, dark, dark out there without them.  I definitely want them back :)
