I too, out of great respect for my Alma Mater, (U of Illinois, my prof Nick Holonyak (c.f)
invented the LED right above the basement lab I did my post-doc work)
have switched (ahh.that is a pun!) to an LED household...one regret to be
remedied soon, is that the LED bedside table lamps are way too bright
after we tossed are warm red bulbed lights...well..all excpt the 1000 watt
flood lights used for winter snow removal on the driveway...

I gave up on motion lights several years ago,  It seems
that they
will either sense a rabbit or a horse won't set them
of with no
happy medium.  Now that LED's are affordable we had
several in key
places that are not even on switches, one on the shop by
the back
gate, one on the basement stairs way, and one in the
shop.  We use
two chandelier bulbs on each side of the mirror in the
bathroom and
these are on 24/7, the flood light for our flag is LED
and is also
on 24/7 as well are several lamps on the back deck and
stairs. 
Since the biggest single wattage draw is 7.5 watts for a
60W
equivalent, I estimate it costs us about 8 to 10 dollars
a months
for the comfort of being able to walk around at night
without the
fear of stumbling or bumping into things.  In the last
5 years we
have only had one bulb failure and have just about
replaced every
other type of bulb in the entire house, even our reading
lamps with
LED's.

the outlet
that has the power line. This morning I let
the dogs out
at 4am, no lights.  I went out on the step,

 Went further out and walked back and forth

areas which should have set them off.   I can

red light up there — between the two bulbs -

regular lights won't come on.  Just put new
