Finally got our gas logs installed and while it's all good, the logs sit higher than I wanted. The hearth is 15", then the firebox sits on top of that so by the time the logs are installed on the grate they are another 12" higher. Its pretty, but I like to sit with my feet on the hearth - and by the time we get the stone on this it will be too high. Since it's all still in sheetrock it's no trouble to lower the hearth but that still leaves the logs too high. Any thoughts on the problems involved in lowering the firebox? The inside is fake brick, easily cut, so the gas line would not have to be moved and I think the electrical is contained in the firebox. I know the firebox just sits on the support and nailed in with the flanges.
