Fire places and trailer houses scare me, but if it was OK with wood, it would probably be fine with a good gas insert, but don't get a cheap one and make sure you are properly vented.  I hope you have working smoke and CO2 alarms installed.

I have a wood fireplace insert in my mobile home that was built 6 years ago. It has a fresh air intake from the outside and a fan to bring heated air into the room. Don't hate on me, a cold evening here is 45 F. I want to add a gas insert. Does this require anything not readily obvious? Either a log set or a pipe to start wood.
