Re: [DIY] Ants

Yes ... these things in the house I notice actually fly, I saw one jump on my arm the other day. They are vicious and they bite, too. There are probably several varieties.

We were over run with a tiny variety of ants this past summer, until in desperation I went all around the foundation and basement with a strong mixture of Malathion and that got rid of the little pests.  We have used BA for years but some times we just have to get out the big guns.

The ants are supposed to flock to it. That's the point! Then they take the poison back to the nest and it kills the colony. Did you keep putting more out? Maybe you didn't use enough. And in the situation with a building it is highly likely that there are many colonies. And I believe that vigilant housekeeping might go a long way toward keeping them away too. The ants won't be there if there is no food. Not that I am the best housekeeper myself! In fact the reason I am experienced in pest control is because I am a terrible housekeeper!

I have used Terro many times. Nothin' works. Last time I used Terro, the ants flocked to it. However, they flocked to it for weeks and instead of a decrease, I noticed not only did they love it, but they were rallying around it. I will, however, try more boric acid. again

I assume the OP has already tried Terro. That stuff worked very well one time when I lived in a condo. What type of ants do you have?

I agree with you Ray. I haven't ever found anything that works as well as Boric Acid for cockroaches. Nothing else worked permanently like it did.
I didn't have as much luck with ants but it may have been like you said, the delivery system. I suppose it might vary with the type of ants.
Mixing some Boric Acid with sugar might be a good method, but not all ants prefer sugars. Find what they like and mix it with that as a bait. Maybe try some raw hamburger and mix some in with it. It's not supposed to be dangerous to animals. Boric Acid works by being taken back to the nest. It messes with the nervous systems in insects, from what I've read.
I've tried many things with cockroaches and nothing worked like Boric Acid did. I don't have much of an ant problem here so it hasn't been much of a priority.

The best reply to insects of all kinds is BORIC ACID. All you have to do is figure out the most effective delivery system.

We live in south Florida. The ants never go away. They are in the walls of this building. We live on the 4th floor and they must have colonies (if that is possible) in the walls of the building. They enter through any means possible.
