Re: [DIY] Cindi's Walls:

In other words, my goal should NOT be to drive him up a wall, but rather to gain a friend and be kind with him. I'll accept that. I will, however, try to teach him what I can. A young lady from craigslist is here to help strip the wallpaper, she's been painting for 6 years, I happen by chance to know her mother who is a teacher and so we're getting along famously so far. She looked at the paintjob and said essentially what you all are saying, that sometimes differences in appearance cannot be helped, but she agreed that he never should have used the caulking for anything larger than a small nail hole and from appearances, she's saying it looks like he went over the patchwork with a brush and not a roller, which he used for the rest of the walls. Also, she said that when he cut into the edges, he used a paintbrush but he should have cut close with the roller, because you can see about a 5" brush stroke on the edges as opposed to a textured look for the rest of the wall. We shall see...

Ignorance is a correctable condition, however stupidity is forever.  If his only sin is ignorance you may be able to help him in this stead and thereby gain a grateful friend in the end.  I have learned over the years that those quickest to criticize are in almost all cases the least able to tolerate constructive criticism themselves.  I would far rather loose a $100.00 and gain a friend then gain $10,000.00 and have an enemy for life.
