I guess the saying goes never to hire or work with friends. This case seems to be living proof. For the next project it's probably best to either hire a professional or do it yourself.
I think the best thing you could do is not drag this thing out any further. Ask all questions and make all statements that you want with this guy in your next conversation and be done with it after that conversation. That way the relationship won't be blemished any further and you can save some sanity and feel at peace.
Move forward and feel at peace. Either hire a professional to fix it, do it yourself or live with it. Or perhaps move onto another project and revisit the wall dilemma at some other point. That way you can temporarily free your mind of that problem and feel as though you are accomplishing something else in the meantime.

:-) look - I want peace. I am going to state my case but that's it, if he doesn't want to accept it, I can't help that. I don't always stand on principle, although he DID tell me that if I'm not satisfied I don't have to pay. That's how rash (stupid?) this guy is. I would NEVER do business that way. When I was teaching piano and voice and I wanted students, I would advertise one free lesson. But that's one free lesson, not hundreds of dollars of work for free. :-) If he's not willing to accept a lower payment and go away, well there's nothing I can do about that, but I would never recommend him to my friends. I'm going to keep the pictures to show, and so forth. We live in the same community, have social dealings with one another and I don't want to be the "bad guy" here. So I'm willing to go out of my way to make peace. But thank you for telling me that I'm not a fool, I appreciate that. If it were UP TO ME, yes I would have been done with him and wipe my hands. I have a friend who is a manager, she is divorced with two children to raise. She sometimes talks to me about how hard it is to deal with men employees who will not take direction from a woman. NOW I can believe that. OTOH, when I was in sales I usually had managers that were great and on my side. :-) But maybe if you're a workman it's different. My husband was kind enough to tell me that he knows nothing about fixing things up; that if the man had told him it was a great job and charged him $500 he would not know the difference. Unless it was bouncing at him, and my husband does not 'see' defects in things. I do. this truly has been a most interesting excursion, I mean that.

LOLOL -- I'm a bit way off from Tampa -- but thank you -- I AM continuing to read many of these posts to my husband, he seems to be listening, lol. After I try to fix the job this man did, and am finding I"m not doing too well in fixing it, lol, I didn't want MORE work, but anyway, yes, I will be talking to our 'friend,' asking him these "annoying" questions ... I would love to have the drywall put in, but you know what? I'm afraid to have him do more work...lol, especially putting in the drywall.

Yeah, if the guy didn't know that painting over that would make it ridiculously more difficult to fix that after painting I'd pay him minimum wage/hour for his time. Seriously. I'll be in Tampa next week. Want me to drive down and have a chat with your "friend?"

I did take photos. One is in the daylight before I fixed it up somewhat, so you can see the awful job done. The second is one I took today after I sanded and repainted yesterday. Doesn't look much better, you can still see difference, I don't think I can leave it this way right now. I took this picture with a flashlight, applying your suggestions. Please look and give me your opinions if you have the time at "Clean_boost" album in the photo section, thanks.
