Subject: Re: [DIY] Replacement window installation
I just wanted to tell the group that my husband and myself installed 5 large
Simonton casement windows in our 1955 built home.
The estimate from Home Depot was $9,000 and the one from sears was $11,000.
We figure it cost us $2,800 including the added purchase of trim and all
adhesives. My husband and I both are retirement age.
I would encourage everyone to really be careful in the measurements as one
window was off-plumb and we had to remove 1/2 inch of old plaster to make it
fit.
He had done a plumb line on all windows but that one.
Measurements were taken from three vertical and three horizontal points
including the middle for accuracy.
We specified the windows built to our calculations.
Now we are on a roll and are going to retile behind the kitchen counters as
what is there is dated and worn out.
I still do love my original formica counter tops and we have tried to
upgrade the house without clashing with the old feeling the house portrays.
A bundle of money can be saved by tackling projects ourselves.
