We finally were forced to replace the stool with one of the new minimum water usage design, and after putting this off for as long as possible because we just knew the darned thing would be noting but a disaster we bit the bullet and and opted for a high rise while we were at it. I found a Mansfield at Menards which looked like a fit and it was purchased and installed. This particular model has a two flush selection feature. There is a soft flush for basic fluids and a hard flush for solids. As amazing as it may sound, this thing actually works and the hard flush feature is seldom needed. I would estimate that it uses less than two quarts of water per flush.
