some ants are attracted to fat. Whenever (my husband) cooks hamburgers or chicken and leaves a speck of savory fat behind, the ants come out in droves. You have to find out what substances they like, and either keep those substances away (control) or mix the substance with boric acid. The only real method that helped me was to control an invasion.

You know, now I am not even sure it's a citronella ant. I assumed it, but these ants are not yellow.
Has anyone tried anything different than boric acid?
I had the same experience that dry boric acid doesn't seem to work on
ants. It works extremely well on any other insect, especially cockroaches.
Mixing boric acid with some water, sugar or fat and using it as a bait,
might work. Maybe try mixing it with what you see them going after.
