Re: [DIY] Electric mowers

As mentioned already, self-propelled mowers don't like going backward (being
pulled). A couple years ago, I thought I'd try a self-propelled mower. I
did like the electronic start, but...I couldn't get the mower in and out of
small, tight spots. Let me amend that - I could get it in, but couldn't get
it out again by dragging it backward, the way I can with my
non-self-propelled mower. Several places are too small to be able to turn
around, which meant the only way to get it out was to lift the back end, so
the propelling wheels didn't touch the ground, and *then* drag it out. Not
fun, and not easy. I struggled with it for a couple of mows and then it
quit on my. When I described what happened to a more mechanically inclined
friend, he said it sounded like it threw a rod. I have no idea what that
means other than it stopped working. I returned it to the store and bought
a much less costly gasoline powered, high wheel, push mower, which has been
working fine for two years now.

Self-propelled is a nice idea if you have a flat yard with no little
cul-de-sacs and don't have to mow around shrubbery, tress, etc.; if the only
direction you need to go is forward.

Electric mowers are something with which I have no experience.
