Hi Laren, Thank you so much for your ideas. The carpet is about 18 years old, and, believe it or not, we did save the leftover carpet until maybe last year when I wanted to start cleaning out the basement. The roll of leftover 17-year-old carpeting was among the first things to go Rats!
The discolored area is about 17" x 17" and is pretty much front and center visually in the room. It never occurred to me that the discolored area could be cut out and replaced with a good swatch without seams showing. The room has two walls that are virtually all large sliders, a third wall that consists mostly of the slider to the kitchen and a regular door to the outside. The fourth side is a solid wall where the couch is placed. I could easily steal a piece of good carpeting from under the couch to put in place of where the discolored area is. I'm thinking that perhaps I can go to the rug store and tell them my problem and see if I could get one of their staff to come down to do the switch.
Thanks again. Joyce Keay
