[DIY] replacing glass in a window

 

Is there any way to replace the glass pane in a window WITHOUT removing the
sash?

I have to replace the glass in a window. However, the window sashes (it's a
double hung) are painted *and* nailed shut. No, I didn't do it; the house
came that way. The paint is thick enough on the window that trying to
remove the sash will do more damage than good - meaning having to replace
the whole window.

Ideas anyone?
