Re: [DIY] need a water filter

I did a search on Whole House Filters and came up with several though not cheep options, one which was rated at 1,000,000 gallons or 15 years for around $750.00.  However they recommended a pre-filter, and offered a cartridge system.  If it were me I would use a cleanable agricultural screen type pre-filter.  These are readily available in many capacities with screens down to 5 or 10 microns.  The screens are inexpensive and cleanable.  You could keep several spares on hand so that the used units could be cleaned at your leisure.  I feel you are going to need to use some version of a carbon filter, with size and capacity being the criteria if you want long term trouble free service, and price being the other determining option.

Whole House Filter  This is one such option.

I have a problem with sediment clogging my water fixtures. The sediment is white and appears to be something like lime particles, gritty in texture. It is only in my hot water lines. Cold water lines are not a problem. This problem may have started when I installed a new water heater but I am not sure. My water source is a well with very high iron content. I have a good iron filter and water softener. I installed an inline carbon block filter on my shower head but it plugged up in short order.

What I think I need is a whole house filter that will go on my hot water tank outlet. I need something that is easy to clean preferably with a file screen rather than paper or carbon filters. Does anyone have any experience with a problem such as this? Can you recommend a filter?
