Subject: [DIY] RE: Loft insulation gaps

Laren, please excuse my tardy response to your very detailed and enlightening reply to my question. A multitude of other domestic problems to deal with kept me from the forum including a hole in my garage roof.

I found your reply very interesting particularly as I often have the bathroom window slightly ajar when there are clothes drying in there (no extractor fan!). I had previously thought a house needed to 'breath' moisture from the inside - out into the ventilated loft area. BTW, yes, I am in the UK and the loft area is ventilated from the gaps at the eaves. The roof is tiled and has a bitumin backing under the slates. There is no insulation behind the roof i.e. between the rafters although I was considering tacking 'solid' rockwool panels in those gaps. So I should do all I can to stop air inside the house getting into the loft? The base of the loft between the joists is plasterboard - the interior ceiling for the upper floor. Not sure what you mean by roof sheathing. Are you saying to put a waterproof membrane down before laying rockwool on top?  Once again thank you for your reply; as it has been so long since my original post I understand if I do not get a reply!
Regards
Dan
